COATING OF CAVITY-FREE WALLSMany older buildings, particularly in inland areas, were constructed without cavity walls. Inorganic “lime-wash” coatings were often used on such buildings allowing damp to dissipate out of the masonry in a natural manner.Re-coating of these substrates can be problematic if not tackled correctly. Re-application of lime-wash is perhaps the most logical option, but in some cases a longer term solution is sought and conventional coatings are opted for. In such cases it is necessary to remove all of the lime-wash from the substrate using high pressure water-jetting, or by scrubbing brush if the substrate cannot be subjected to such pressure. When dry, WeatherPrufe Bonding Liquid should be applied to ensure that any remaining loose material is fully bound before coating with breathable matt topcoats. WeatherPrufe NX Matt Acrylic can be successfully used in this application. |
