EFFLORESCENCE

Efflorescence is a natural occurrence in which dissolved salts are transported out of cementitious substrates.

On evaporation of the moisture when it reaches the surface, salts are deposited and seen as a white, powdery substance. These salts can be washed off the surface with clean water, and large build-ups by diluted Spirits of Salt.

Should this re-occur repeatedly, it is very likely that moisture is penetrating the structure, and a waterproofing issue exists. The source of this problem needs to be determined and addressed.

Once the structure has been successfully waterproofed, and the substrate is dry, remove the efflorescence as above before coating commences.
