NEW CEMENT FLOORSPREPARATIONEnsure that newly laid floors have fully hydrated prior to coating. The floor should have been wet down at least three times after floating of the screed and allowed to hydrate for 28 days before coating. To ensure that the screed is dry, place a rubber mat on the floor and leave overnight before inspecting the area below for condensation (a dark patch will remain). Should there be evidence of damp; the floor should be left well ventilated till such time as it is completely dry before coating. Very smooth-floated (usually power floated) floors require mechanical abrading or acid etching to roughen the surface prior to coating. Irrespective of how the floor was floated, inspect and ensure that the surface is rough enough for paint to penetrate and adhere to. If acid etching is the method chosen to roughen the surface, ensure that the floor dries completely after this step before proceeding. Ensure that the floor screed is free of any loose materials. PRIMINGApply one coat WeatherPrufe Twin Pack Epoxy thinned 10 % with Epoxy Thinners using a mohair roller. This should be done taking care to work the coating into the profile of the floor and without generating foam by vigorous rolling. On very porous, under bound floor- screeds, WeatherPrufe Twin Pack Epoxy Clear, thinned 20% with Epoxy Thinners, can be used as a prime coat. This will ensure a very high degree of penetration into the screed.TOP-COATAllow 8 hrs drying time before over-coating with an unthinned coat of WeatherPrufe Twin Pack Epoxy.Note that the maximum drying time between coats should not exceed 48 hrs. CURINGTwin Pack coatings cure by chemical reaction that occurs between the base and catalyst. This reaction is slowed down by cold temperatures and for this reason it is necessary to apply such paints when air temperatures will not drop below 12 degrees C over the next 7 day period. This will allow the coating to cure fully and maximum hardness & resistance properties will be reached.Note that no heavy traffic or chemical cleaning should be allowed during this first 7 day period. PAYING DUE ATTENTION TO THESE REQUIREMENTS WILL ENSURE THAT THE MAXIMUM LIFE-SPAN OF THE COATING WILL BE REALISED ANY DEVIATIONS FROM THESE REQUIREMENTS WILL ADVERSELY AFFECT THE PERFORMANCE OF THE COATING |
